Most organizations maintain and manage large amounts of information. One of the most efficient and powerful ways of managing data is by using relational databases. Information can be stored, linked, and managed using a single relational database application and its associated tools. In this course, you will examine the basic database concepts, and create and modify databases and their various objects using the Microsoft Office Access relational database application.

Course Objective: You will create and modify new databases and their various objects.

Target Student: This course is designed for students who wish to learn the basic operations of the Microsoft Access database application to perform their day-to-day responsibilities, and to understand the advantages that using a relational database application can bring to their business processes. The Level 1 course is for the individual whose job responsibilities include designing and creating new databases, tables, and relationships; creating and maintaining records; locating records; and producing reports based on the information in the database. Individuals who want to pursue Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification in Microsoft Office Access can also take this course.

You have the basic skills needed to work with Microsoft Office Access databases, including creating and working with Access tables, relationships, queries, forms, and reports. But so far, you have been focusing only on essential database user skills. In this course, you will consider how to maintain data consistency, how to customize database components, and how to share Access data with other applications.

Course Objective: You will maintain data consistency and integrity; improve queries, forms, and reports; and also integrate Microsoft Office Access with other applications.

Target Student: Microsoft Office Access Level 2 is designed for students who would like to learn intermediate-level operations of the Microsoft Office Access program. The Level 2 course is for individuals whose job responsibilities include maintaining data integrity; handling complex queries, forms, and reports; and sharing data between Access and other applications. This course is also a prerequisite to taking more advanced courses in Access. Individuals who want to pursue Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification in Microsoft Office Access can also take this course.

In this course, you will extend your knowledge into some of the more specialized and advanced capabilities of Access by structuring existing data, writing advanced queries, working with macros, enhancing forms and reports, and maintaining a database.

Course Objective: You will create complex Access databases by structuring existing data, writing advanced queries, working with macros, making effective use of forms and reports, and performing database maintenance.

Target Student: This course is for the individual whose job responsibilities include working with related tables; creating advanced queries, forms, and reports; writing macros to automate common tasks; and performing general database maintenance. Course Objective: You will use Adobe® Premiere® Pro to create a video program that combines video, audio, and still images.

Target Student: Students who need to edit video clips and create digital movies, but have little or no experience using Premiere Pro or students who want to edit video more quickly, integrate video with other Adobe products, and work in a digital format that can be purposed again for multiple uses. They may have experience using graphic design and illustration programs, such as page layout, photo editing, or illustration programs, but probably do not have experience using other video editing applications.

Some of those tasks might include writing a letter, analyzing numeric information, or maintaining an updated list of client information; however, before you use a personal computer, you need to understand what it is and how it works. In this course, that's what you will do. Once you're comfortable with that, you will begin using your personal computer.

Course Objective: You will learn the basic skills necessary to operate a personal computer.

Target Student: This course is designed for a user who has never used a personal computer and needs to use a personal computer on the job.

Prerequisites: This course was designed for the student who is completely new to personal computers and needs to learn the basics about Windows XP. If you are using the Windows XP operating system and are new to computers, you should take this course before attempting any other FCDW courses.

Getting Started with SEO for Business

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a process of optimizing your website so it ranks higher in search engine result listings.  All business' today need to factor in an SEO plan into their greater marketing plan in order to maximize how people may find you on search engines.

This introductory course is focused on starting from the beginning of what is SEO and why your business needs it.  You will learn the fundamentals necessary to succeed with your SEO plan.  This course is taught by local SEO expert, Cecily Crout of CCSEO, in Fort Collins.

Prerequisite: Prior knowledge of HTML and internet technologies is recommended but not required.  If you are not sure that this class is right for you, please contact an education specialist before enrollment.

Wordpress 201 – Themes, Plug-ins, and Widgets is for people who have started a website in WordPress and are looking to continue their customizations by adding custom themes, plug-ins, and widgets.  This course focuses on the WHY and HOW of each topic, using instructor-led examples during the class for each student to follow, followed by some lab time for each student to apply their own custom changes.

Our goal is to help you expand your power with WordPress past the basics, understanding that the changes in appearance that every website designer wants are now at your fingertips.  We do recommend the pre-requisite that you have taken WordPress 101 from the FCDW or equivalent knowledge.

Welcome to XML: An Introduction (Fourth Edition). With your HTML knowledge, you have a solid foundation for working with markup languages. However, unlike HTML, XML is more flexible, allowing you to create custom tags to store and share data across different systems. This course introduces the fundamentals of XML and its related technologies so that you can create your own markup documents.

Course Objective: You will create markup documents using XML and its related technologies.

Target Student: Web developers using non-XML tools such as Flash, HTML, ColdFusion, and Java, who now want to incorporate XML technology. Desktop publishers wanting to migrate to an XML-based publishing solution. Self-taught XML developers who want to use XML efficiently.
