June/July 2012 Art Exhibition: James Steele, Photography & Digital Art
“The photography that I have created in my career shows the beauty I see through the lens. I know that when the shutter closes I have stopped that moment in time for the beholder to see and enjoy. I hope you enjoy my photography as much as I enjoyed creating the images.” –James Steele
With over 54 years of photography experience, James Steele is one of the region’s leading photographers. Given his first camera at the age of eight, James realized from an early age that he wanted to be a photographer. He attended Weber College to study contemporary photography, mentoring under many master photographers.
James opened his first photography studio in 1983. The studio specialized in family/school portraits, weddings and group photography. In 1999, James closed the studio to relocate to Fort Collins with his wife, JoAn.
James is currently on the Board of Directors for the Art on Mountain Gallery here in Fort Collins. His work is on display at The Old Firehouse Bookstore in Old Town, and he has recently been in multiple juried shows.
Throughout his years of photography work, James has taken his art from traditional to contemporary to 3-D digital art – a style that he will be showcasing in his solo exhibition at The Fort Collins Digital Workshop. The exhibition will open June 1 and close July 30. Art will be located in the classroom and break room spaces, and all of the artworks will be available for purchase.
